The Field
A grass or synthetic pitch, rectangular, with a length of 100 yards (91.4 m) and a width of 60 yards (55 m), Flag posts of between 4 and 5 ft high (1.2-1.5 m) are placed at each 25 yards line (22.9 m), 1 yard outside the sidelines and at each corner of the field.
The Goals
The goalposts and crossbar are white and rectangular, with a loosely fitted net. The whole structure is positioned at the centre of each back-line.
Crossbar not to exceed sideways beyond goalposts, 2 in wide, 3in deep.
The Ball
Spherical and hard, of any material. Must weigh between 5.05 and 5.75 oz (156-163 g) and have a circumference of 8 13/16 - 9.25 in (224-235 mm). Usually white.
The Stick
Must weigh between 12 and 28 ounces (340 - 794 g) and be able to pass through a 5.1 cm (interior diameter) ring. With a curved wooden head of no more than 4 inches in length (measured from the lowest part of the flat face) and a flat face on the left hand side only.
Most adults use a stick around 90 cm long. Ideally, the handle of the stick should reach your hips when the head is on the ground beside your feet.
The Dress
Shirt and shorts or a skirt. Players of the same team must wear uniform clothing, approved by their association or club, apart from the goalkeeper, who must wear over any upper body protectors a shirt or garment of a different colour to the team and the opposition, plus protective clothing - full helmet, pads, hand protectors and kickers.
Shin Protection
For most of the players no special clothing is needed for hockey. However, players usually wear plastic or foam shin guards beneath their socks.
